A Letter to My Parents.

Mum and Dad,
Firstly, I love you.
Thank you for investing so much of your lives in raising me. Thank you for the many, many, many incredible memories. Thank you for the days spent exploring the outdoors, weekend fishing trips and the late night sewing of dance costumes that went into the early hours of the morning. Thank you for all the evenings you read books to me and the board games we would play around the table. There is a lot I am grateful to you for. Thank you for protecting me from the monsters under my bed. I know I don't say it enough but I truly love both of you. Sometimes, saying "I love you" doesn't express how I deeply love and care about the two of you but I don't have the vocabulary to explain it. I tend to shy away from talking about emotions or similar subjects but I'm sure over my 18 years of being your daughter, you've realised that. I guess I've just always found more comfort in writing. I would love to know how it felt on the afternoon of Monday, August the 4th 1997 when you looked at me and held me in your arms for the first time. Thank you for the gift of life. And teaching me to cherish my life and all that life includes. Thank you for guiding me in times of darkness, for holding me through every tear and doing everything in your power to give me more than I will ever deserve. Believe me when I say that I definitely wouldn't be where I am today if it weren't for the unconditional love and support the both of you have given me. You have taught me to dream fearlessly. You have selflessly put my needs before your own. I constantly think about how incredibly lucky I am to have you in my life.
I love you to the moon and back,
Your favourite (and only) child.
