'I Take You' by Eliza Kennedy.

I haven't done a book review in a while because I haven't read a book in a while that I have completely fallen in love with. I'm open for book suggestions if you have any! I was at an airport recently (surprise, surprise) and I was looking for a book to read while enduring the almost 3 hour plane ride when I came across I Take You by Eliza Kennedy. I know it's bad, but I definitely judge a book by it's cover and always choose the one's with bold wording and hardly any background images. It's incredibly appealing to my inner OCD nerd.

I Take You is definitely a more chick-lit read. The protagonist Lily works at a top New York law firm and is in her early 20s. Her fiancé, Will, is a super-geek-archaeologist whom I quickly began to love in the first few chapters. Throughout the book, I began to dislike Lily through certain sections; she began showing unlikeable qualities (arrogance/callous) but still had that love a book such as Bridget Jones's Diaries brings to you. Let's just say... Lily has an infidelity problem. Her entrance into Harvard University is less than notable  I assumed that Kennedy had made Lily have this characteristic to make us disconnect from the character but it only made me think more and more why was she cheating on the man she had described as perfection?!? I really enjoyed that throughout the novel, Lily narrates some great one-word sentences to remind the reader what she meant to say (that'll make sense while reading the book). We are also introduced to many members of Lily's family, some of which try to convince Lily that maybe marrying Will isn't the best idea. I love this novel but there is one thing missing - HUMOUR! There wasn't really any moments throughout the novel where I laughed, it was more just the suspense of whether or not Lily would marry Will.

There are definitely different reasons why I love different novels. Some novels, the actual sentence structures and word combinations have me longing for more... These are novels such as Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov. And then, there are novels like I Take You... I don't necessarily find a connection with the structure and word combinations but the storyline is what captures me.

There won't be a review next Saturday as the Friday is Anemice's birthday so I'll be uploading a birthday post for her!
