Colouring Books for 'Grown Ups'.
Saturday, August 29, 2015A little secret about me... I'm obsessed with the new adult colouring book trend. I first saw them in Dymocks (book store) about 3-4 months ago and I purchased 2 along with a brand new set of colouring pencils and markers - why? Because I'm successfully adulting (that's a new word). They were first introduced as stress or anxiety relievers but as they are becoming more and more popular people are just buying them as a past-time. Normally, I'll hesitate about these sorts of trends but this is one that struck straight away. I don't think I've jumped on the bandwagon of something more than I have of these colouring books. I went from owning 2 a few months ago to now owning 14. I've only completed 5 books completely but I like to have different options. I've seen ones from flowers to cities to animal to mandalas and everything in between. My personal favourites are the flowers and mandalas because there isn't really set colours for them. It's weird (to me) to do a city with a green or orange sky or an cat that's pink... That's where my OCD comes out and if I don't have some kind of "normal" colours it sends me mad.
I highly recommend these to people who have high stress levels or anxiety levels as something to do before bed. I like to (if possible) do about an hour or two a night before bed as a way to clear my head and relax. Trust me; an hour of colouring, candles, a hot chocolate and a warm bed is the best way to relax and chill out. The most stressful thing becomes what colour to make each petal of the flowers. On those days when I don't get the chance to clear my head with colouring I can defiantly feel the tension within myself rising. Weird, right?!?
