Things I've Learnt About Myself.

Wednesday, January 20, 2016

In no particular order, here are some things I've recently learnt about myself.

1. I need to be stressed to be efficient and motivated. In order for me to get things done I need to leave them to the very last minute and I need to have the pressure of time to keep me going. Further, it means I need to be in a somewhat uncomfortable situation (doing something I wouldn't normally be doing because of anxiety scares) to be in my element and actually want to get things done. Because the quicker I do it, the quicker it's over right?!

2. I have much more severe/prominent OCD than once thought. I always knew I had OCD, it was diagnosed by a doctor. But, I've realised recently more and more things I do have an order to them. For example, I noticed that every push pin on my cork board is the same colour and shape. Every peg on my photo hanger, is the exact same colour. All the keys on my keyring face the same way - so the jagged key edge is all the same way. I eat in even numbers. I subconsciously count steps. My book shelf is organised in author surname, unless it is a reference or cookbook where it is organised by category, i.e. linguistics, literary theories, or Italian food, Desserts, etc.

3. Alcohol doesn't make me have a better time. Actually, I have a better time drinking water and actually remembering what happened when I wake up the next morning. My not New Years, New Years resolution (because if I make it an actual resolution there is less likely chance I'll stick to it) is to drink a whole lot less. No real reason, just that there are many times in 2015 that I don't remember because I was too busy making a complete dick of myself drinking too much and waking up in last night's clothes and makeup with no memory, a bad hangover and regrets. So, new rule. If I want to drink, for every one glass of alcohol I have to have three glasses of water. Not only will I be able to remember the night but it will make me a lot more healthy :-)) Which is kind of my other thing I want to change in 2016.

4. I'm normally a quite sassy person, but for some reason whenever I wear my Dr. Marten shoes my sass increases by about 35% ;-)

5. I hate flakey people. Enough said...

6. I need to take my panic and anxiety attacks more seriously. I was hospitalised 4 times in 2015 because of a severe attack so this year I've made a pact with myself that I will take my anxiety levels more seriously and not push myself too far. If I need a day in bed to myself with no technological distractions, I will make sure that happens!

7. I'm a lot more introverted than I once thought.
