It's the Little Things.

Thursday, December 15, 2016

I've definitely discovered that it is the little things in life that make me the most happy. As much as I can appreciate a beautiful handbag or gorgeous pair of shoes, it's things like a simple smile or a hot cup of tea (I know this sounds incredibly cliche) that make me to most happy. A material item may be a quick fix, but it's the thoughtfulness behind a smile that lasts forever.

In saying that, there are seven things that I have come across to make me have an extra pep in my step from day-to-day.

1. This one just happens to be how I am in this exact moment I write this - it's 7.53pm on Wednesday evening, I've just hopped out of a very relaxing shower (I've turned into a bit of a shower person [over a bath] - I turned my bathroom light off but had a bunch of candles lit and spent my shower having a deep conditioner throughout my hair and exfoliating my body). I have my fairy lights on around my room and 9 candles lit, spread across my two bedside tables. I have a hot cup of tea beside me and am currently in matching, cosy, winter pj's wrapped up under a few blankets (and the air conditioner on because it's Australia and this time of year means crazy hot summer weather!) My record player is playing Adele's 19 album. And to top everything off, I have a beautiful deep cleanse charcoal face mask on.

2. Getting my winged eyeliner perfect the very first time

3. A hot cup of tea with the perfect milk to water ratio and the tea bag left in for the perfect amount of time (Meg does this very well)

4. A Facetime call with my American family - whether that be a five-minute call, or the usual two to three hour call Morgan and I have per day

5. I wore a new dress over the weekend and was complimented a few times on how nice I looked. I don't know if it was the intention or not, but that made me feel so much happier throughout the day

6. Spending quality time with my best friends - I've blogged about this before (I think), but I have needed to start making more time for the people in my life that mean a lot to me. And in the past month or so I feel like I've really started doing that. You would have seen in my weekly post uploaded on Monday that I spent a night with Holly and Meg grabbing dinner and seeing a movie. Without going into too much detail (because our conversations were quite hilarious but probably not blog-able) I had one of the best nights I've had! It didn't require a night club or bottles and bottles of alcohol. Instead, it was just the three of us grabbing dinner (sharing a lot of laughs) and seeing a movie.

7. Making progress when tackling a task. Whether it be chores around the house and noticing that list of things to get done become smaller and smaller or getting closer to the end of an assignment, seeing how much work has been done and how close you are to finishing a task is quite rewarding.

I encourage all of you to notice something small that makes you smile/happy this week!
Thank you for the ongoing and continuous support.

XO
