Week 19: Write an FAQ post.
To continue on with the Saturday series, today's post is a FAQ one. There are only a couple of questions that I receive regularly so let's quickly get through them :)
How long have you been blogging?
I have been blogging on the website now since May of 2014. However, I started a blog in August of 2011 that I maintained until 2013 but has now been deleted from the Internet because no one needs to suffer and read my work from 14-16 year old me.
How old are you?
I am 19 and will be 20 in August 2017.
Are you doing anything aside from blogging?
I am currently studing a dual degree of a Bachelor of Secondary Education (majoring in English and minoring in Geography) and a Bachelor of Arts (majoring in English Literature and minoring in Linguistics/Phonetics).
Is blogging your full-time job?
Sure is!!
How have you found the process of weekly blogging?
I'm not going to lie, after a year or so of 3 posts a week (plus the occasional bonus post - there'll be one up tomorrow!) I am still struggling. Having to come up with new and creative content each week is difficult, but these series' have definitely proved beneficial in helping me to stay somewhat creative. I also sometimes just lose track of the day and realise I have a post that needs to be written ASAP.
What is the best piece of advice you could give to a beginner blogger?
Definitely to set small goals for yourself (and to try your hardest to stick to them)!! That would probably be my biggest advice, as it helps to stay constant. Just make sure your posts are consistant, portray who you are and overall just make sure you're having fun doing it!
How did you build a readership?
I'd love to have some grand story about building my readership, but in all honestly it sort of happened accidentally. For the first few months I had no idea how to access the statistics tab (I actually had no idea there was one), but around August of 2014 I began talking to other bloggers and finding out that this was a platform where they were dedicating their lives - having full time jobs and getting paid to do something they loved. I began investigating a little deeper and was actually (around the same time) contacted by a publisher who was interested in my writing style and had seen that I was writing a book. Long story short, they wanted to meet with me and had organised for an management/agent to sign me. After that (super quick) process, I was signed to my awesome management and began learning the ins and outs of blogging professionally. Turns out I had been accumulating quite a few thousand readers per month!! I have never promoted myself on my own personal platforms and have only done one or two guest posts. I truly think that people just accidentally stumble across my blog and decide to peruse.
XO
