Me vs. Others.

Monday, November 30, 2015

I, like many others, am guilty of comparing myself to others. I do try my best not to but in society today I believe it's very difficult! We are constantly surrounded by social media telling us how we should look, what we should wear, what we should eat and what we should be doing. Yes, it's our own choice whether or not we take notice of these social media standards but subliminal messages are becoming more and more popular as ways to convey these messages to people. Here are some things I am trying to be more aware of:

1. Learning to accept that everyone is different; this means learning to accept that I hate dieting and exercise but I should do the best I can do be the best version of myself. However, it also means that I shouldn't hate myself for not being smaller and like the girls we see on Instagram.
2. Good for Her, not for Me; This Amy Poehler quote is something that I've started enforcing in my life. Being there for my friends and making sure I tell them how much I appreciate them.
3. Being happy with who you are; I need to start taking note of the small moments that happen every single day that I would normally overlook.
4. General comparison; I need to just generally stop comparing where I am in my life compared to where others are in theirs.
