Learning New Things.

I realise that this post may come across as quite pretentious or narcissistic but I hope you understand that it's really not and I'm just going to be writing without planning or editing (as always) so please forgive me.

For some reason, when I went to overseas in the past month I feel as though I learnt quite a bit about myself... See, sounds pretentious! Sorry. I thought for today's 'Miscellaneous Monday' I'd list a few things I've realised/learnt about myself/the world.

1. Quality over quantity: Once I left high school I cut down the amount of friends I hung around and stuck with the people who I really enjoyed the company of. In the past month, I've realised there are 3-4 people in my life that are making each and everyday great, are making time for me, are amazing impacts on my life and are people that I can trust. And, to be honest, I really like it that way - I couldn't ask for better friends.
2. Life is Short: I'm all of 18 years old but I've started becoming aware of how short life is. To think, 6 months ago I had moved out and was living alone in Brisbane city!! To think, 12 months ago I was graduating high school!!! 12 months ago I had finished writing my first novel!!! It feels like days ago! To think, only 5 years ago I was starting high school!!! I don't want to waste anymore of my time on 'pointless' things that aren't getting me to the place I desire for my life. It's time that I quit (excuse my language) fucking around, and decide where and what I want to do.
3. Money isn't everything: I used to think that your career had to provide a lot of money, or you wouldn't be happy. FALSE. Okay, having some extra cash isn't a bad thing but it shouldn't be the number one reason you choose a job. This isn't to do with my career, but I spent very little money in Seattle and honestly had one of the best times in my life: everything was so much fun, we signed off from technology for a few days, spent time exploring and laughed a lot!
4. Don't do anything that doesn't make you happy: This doesn't mean not doing laundry, because in the end doing laundry means clean clothes = clean house = happy :-) I mean a university course, a job, even a friendship... extinguish the negativity from your life (if possible).
5. Take changes: I went overseas on a whim, moved from Brisbane on a whim, moved states on a whim, changed university course on a whim... all because it made me happy at the time. It's not a forever happiness, but for those moments I was happy and it made me feel good within myself.
6. What people think of you shouldn't change how you think of yourself: pretty self explanatory right?!?
