Olga is my grandmother. I called her Nanna. She was one of the biggest inspirations in my life and I am forever grateful that I got to call her mine. She was born on January 22nd 1922 and passed away on May 4th 2014. Her husband, my pop, was born on March 15th 1923 and passed away on December 18th 2013. I was their only grandchild. They had two children; my uncle has no children and I am my mum's only child. Yes, being the only grandchild, I was incredibly spoilt but I was always taught to be grateful and thankful for what I received. My nan and I were incredibly close.

We expected my pop's passing; he had a stroke and was in palliative care. My nan braved those next few months alone and I am speechlessly proud of her. She wasn't sick. She still went out shopping. She was healthy. She was living in an independent living / retirement living. She woke up on May the 4th 2014 and told the nurse that Doug (my pop) was waiting for her, she went back to sleep and that was it. My dad woke me up that morning and told me he had received a phone call from my mum. My nan had passed away. I didn't get to say goodbye. I didn't have the chance to say my final goodbye to one of the most influential women in my life. I miss her. I miss her everyday and there is not a day that goes by where I don't think of her. Her jokes, her laugh, her smile.

I love my grandparents and I'm glad I had the chance to be as close to them as I was.
