A Week of Travel ~ China.

Saturday, April 04, 2015

China was good; just good, nothing more, nothing less. It was a very intimidating experience and I extremely overwhelmed throughout the entire trip. *FYI* for this trip I'm going to post minimal "diary entries" of the days and more just photos. China was not as I expected. I visited both Beijing and Shanghai and they were vastly different, I'll explain further throughout the days.    I was aware that China's first language isn't English but I thought, due to the amount of tourists, they would understand basic English - I was wrong. It was extremely difficult to communicate throughout the country and there were days where I just couldn't be bothered trying and so I just spent the day to myself and ignored civilisation; have to admit, those were pretty good days. Another annoying thing was that, due to the political state of the Republic of China, all social media access is blocked which was honestly the most difficult aspect of the trip!!!!
Enough rambling!

Friday 20th March
Ah, travel day. I actually don't mind traveling. It was a 9 hour flight to Hong Kong, a 2 hour lay over and then a 3 hour flight to Beijing. I left for Hong Kong at 10.30am and arrived at 5pm (Hong Kong time). Due to (annoying) delayed flights, baggage claim and the long taxi ride to the hotel it ended up being about 3am before I got to sleep, which due to time zones made my brain think it was 5am - 24 HOURS PROPER WITHOUT SLEEP! Yes, I slept on the plane but it's not the same as being in comfy pyjamas, in a comfy bed.

My flight wasn't until 8pm so it was a very relaxing day. I strolled around the Shanghai underground markets and visited the Shanghai Technology Museum.

Friday 27th March
I landed at 2pm and was back at my apartment by around 3pm. I have to admit, I really enjoyed spending the week to myself and relaxing but it was very comforting to come back to my own bed.
